Become a Shipping Specialist

About the Position

The Shipping Specialist position is in the logistics department and is responsible for all outgoing freight, competitive price quoting, and ensuring that daily shipments ship accurately and on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow procedures for checking outgoing shipments; enter all pertinent information in the ERP.
  • Implement quality control procedures by inspecting products leaving the plant using quality checks as defined by the company policy and procedures.
  • Perform appropriate shipping method for products and customers; evaluate what is the most cost effective for the shipment.
  • Maintain information concerning jobs, releases, C of C’s, and customers on the job jacket (i.e.; shipping method instructions and changes, quality issues, etc.).
  • Prepare labels for products being shipped including proper descriptions and shipping instructions, wrapping and banding skids for shipments, loading freight, and assisting courier services.
  • Review and complete paperwork and double check for accuracy to ensure proper receipt and shipping of products.
  • Maintain a shipping log, and daily UPS report, including completion of all International paperwork.
  • Coordinate completion of preparation of Bills of Ladings.
  • Effectively communicate with Customer Service to ensure proper shipping of products.
  • Perform competitive price quoting of carriers.
  • Assist Receiving when there is a high volume or high priority need.
  • Contribute to the creation, improvement, implementation, documentation, and performance of the processes and procedures of The Strouse Corporation Quality Management System.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects that weigh up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects that weight 50 to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Lift Truck Certification (Strouse will provide the training- Shipping Specialist must pass within first 30 days)
  • Computer Proficiency: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • Proficiency in Mathematics and Conversion

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 1-2 Years of Experience in Shipping, within a Warehouse Environment
  • Experience with Process Improvement
  • Licensed Lift Truck Operator
  • Data Entry Experience
