Summary

The Product Development Engineer position is responsible for assisting customers with the design of their products for manufacturing, determining the ideal processing method(s), determining/sourcing the ideal materials, and developing the ideal manufacturing process(es) to create the desired product. This position is important due to the complexity of custom products, and the skill required to develop robust solutions that satisfy customers. Innovation is crucial to Strouse’s competitive advantage.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the design of new products and processes to meet customer demand and sales strategies.
  • Participate in product development meetings, communicating status of agreed action items and documenting progress.
  • Manage prioritization of projects based on current business needs.
  • Source new raw materials and technologies required to achieve product viability and cost objectives.
  • Manage design inputs/outputs and hold design reviews on projects/products when applicable.
  • Participate in implementation and evaluation of quality procedures for developing products as part of the quality team.
  • Keep abreast of new industry technologies and materials and share information with others at Strouse.
  • Support Territory Managers through joint sales calls when necessary.
  • Provide technical support to production when necessary.
  • Support project cost estimation efforts.
  • Monitor post-development production performance of projects.
  • Contribute to the creation, improvement, implementation, documentation, and performance of the processes and procedures of The Strouse Corporation Quality Management System.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel

Travel is expected less than 5%, travel ranges from a partial day to multiple days. Primarily in North America but OUS may occur.

Required Education and Experience

  • 4-year College Degree in Engineering or Related Field
  • Computer Proficiency: CAD & Microsoft Office Products

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • CAD design (AutoCAD/Solidworks)
  • Statistical analysis related to process capability
  • Lean Manufacturing

  • Process Validation/Verification (IQ/OQPQ, PPAP, FAI)
  • PFMEA/DFMEA/DOE
